»String figures are games of patience that are found in nearly all cultures of the world. String figure players can fluidly change simple forms into complicated sequences of figures by using only their hands, teeth and feet, or with the assistance of another person.«

Cultural association KUD Mreža has been interweaving creative strings of artists and artisans since 1997. The association supports artistic expression that challenges common nonsense. KUD Mreža offers advice and support to emerging artists, artisans and other cultural workers with the artfulness of a string figure player who knows that creativity is a necessary skill in complicated games of patience.

»The game itself is thought to have prehistoric roots. Supposedly, Neolithic people not only played it for entertainment, but also divination (fortune-telling) and healing. They believed that string figures possess special powers; energy that can be used for specific purposes in magic and other rituals.«

The first quote is taken from the 1993 Slovene language edition of Frederic V. Grunfeld's Games of the World (1975). The second one quotes Igor Cvetko; musicologist, curator of Slovene Ethnographic Museum and children games researcher who kindly helped us to study the string figures.
